Round 15

Round 15 arrived with a stressful start to the day!   Mother Nature did not play nice with our pitches this week, with both Pitch 1 and 2 deemed unplayable due to the wet conditions.  Luckily the other grounds in the region drained so those games weren’t affected, but all FMR FIFA games were postponed, with the exception of the YL game which made a quick change of venue to play in Busselton!!!

U7 Falcons

As goals went flying across the pitch the Falcons battled the Cornerstone Rockets and the wind today. It was a great competition by all involved with special mention to Archer, Owen and Archie for player of the days. Thank you to sponsors Blue Ginger, Yahava and LJ Soccer.

U8 Messi Kids

For the first time in a few weeks, the Messi Kids were able to field their full team – no sickness, no holidays, and plenty of energy. What followed was a thrilling, end-to-end contest that kept the supporters entertained right until the final whistle.  The opening stages saw strong attacking play from both sides. Quinn opened the scoring after some excellent link-up work from Ezra and Max, while Jack dictated the tempo in midfield alongside Hunter and Clancy. Hunter was a wall in defence, refusing to let anyone past. At the back, Elle, Sonny, Teddy, and Georgia held a solid defence, while Malakai made a string of crucial saves to keep the scores level. Dunsborough snuck in two quick goals in the dying minutes of the first half, heading into the break with a 2–1 lead.

An enthusiastic team talk from super coach Trey had an immediate effect, as the Messi Kids returned with renewed energy. Ezra combined brilliantly with Quinn, who slotted home his second goal of the match to level the scores. From then on, it was a tense, evenly matched battle. The Messi Kids created several great chances through Quinn, Ezra, Jack, and Sonny, and at one point the ball pin-balled around the Dunsborough goalmouth before being cleared. But in the final minute of play, Dunsborough struck again, with a late winner.

It was a fantastic performance from all the Messi Kids – full of spirit, teamwork, and exciting football. Special credit goes to Quinn who had a brilliant game and was awarded the player of the day.

U8 Magic

Magic hit the road for their second-last game of the season against the Stars in Dunsborough. Despite the wild weather and no subs, the team kept running, pushing and never gave up!  Magic put in a strong first half, with Mitchell in Goals pulling off some brilliant saves with strong support from Elbi and Zephyr in defence.  Sav put in an awesome all-game effort, applying great pressure in midfield.  Captain Mason was outstanding through the centre, constantly pushing and driving the ball forward, linking up play, and creating chances for his teammates all game. Charlie was dynamic in the first half as striker with strong runs and some close shots on goal.  It was Oleg’s trademark left-foot strike from the wing, delivering the only goal of the first half before a much needed break at half time.

The Stars came out firing in the second half and so did that South-Westerly wind! But the team stood strong with Charlie stepping into Goals supported by Sav and Zephyr in defence. Elbi was crucial in midfield and created multiple opportunities with smart throw-ins to her team-mates down the wing. Mitch was a force in attack taking on the Stars’ tough defence in the second half.  Zephyr’s return fresh off a surfing adventure was welcomed in defence - always backing up his goalies with some great spoils. Oleg kept up his pace on the wing, sneaking in a goal late in the second to level up the contest and finish off an exciting game and awesome display of teamwork from both sides.

Player of the Day this week went to Charlie for brilliant saves in the second and for his fast, strong runs up front in the first. Thanks to Witchy Pies for the PoD voucher, and a big shout out to Misty for stepping in as sub-coach!

U9 Legends XI

An exciting game to watch and challenging conditions to play in today.  Both teams came out strong but an early goal from JC set the games momentum in our favour. Both teams had great defence but with Harper keeping a tight goal in first half and Kobe in second there was only one goal that made it across on our end.

Makai held the team off with some strong ball skills and hustle throughout game. Knox, Moose and Hutch had a few stellar goals amongst them (with a great header by Moose) made the second half an outstanding game to watch.

Harper and Sonny were feisty and confident strikers in the second with consistent pressure on goal. Accurate passing throughout midfield by Delassi and Marleys goal assist also contributed to a fantastic win! Go Legends.  POD Harper Rowney and Nelson(Moose) Watts.  As always fantastic effort by coaches and fans for the support:)

U9 Raptors

The FMR Raptors played the FMR Rovers and both teams put in a solid effort for the whole game. The weather was wild and players of the Day were Torin and Jed who both displayed persistence and determination.

U9 Mavericks

It was another wet and windy day for soccer in the South West! Undeterred by the icy rain and arctic winds, the MUSC Falcons and the FMR Mavericks played a tight match with goals for both teams. FMR MAVS players of the day were awarded to Angus Collins, Flynn Hardy and Eddie McGrath.

U10 Wasps

Margaret River’s soccer future was on full display as the U10 Wasps took on the Dragons in a thrilling encounter that had spectators on the edge of their seats. Despite blustery conditions that would’ve sent most players scrambling, both teams delivered a showcase of grit, skill, and sportsmanship.  The Wasps came out buzzing, with Leo putting in a truly epic shift—earning Player of the Day with what felt like a million tackles and a defensive presence that anchored the team. Hugo dazzled with sharp positioning and clever passes, Kai brought relentless energy and flair, and Woody impressed with his calm control and smart decision-making under pressure.  While the Wasps gave it everything, the Dragons edged ahead thanks to their impressive teamwork, tight organisation, and flashes of individual brilliance. Their cohesion in the midfield and finishing up front proved decisive.

U10 Serpents

What a stormy and super close game it was today! Our team showed incredible teamwork throughout the match, working together beautifully on both ends of the pitch. Special congratulations to Sasha and Abigail who were awarded players of the day for their awesome defensive skills that kept us in the game during those nail-biting moments. A huge thanks to Coach Benji and Coach Monty - their coaching made all the difference in helping our team play with such unity and determination.

U11 Storm

Great work today Storm, working together as a team under difficult conditions. Lots of talking to each other, warning each other and passing to each other. We had several FMR Canteen PODs. Firstly to Laura James for great listening and following directions. Then to two great goalies, a difficult job at the best of times, Lachlan Wills and Kynan Taylor. Lastly to Elki Wishart who always gives it her all.

U12 Breakers

The DTFC Fury shot a goal early, only to have it nullified by an offside call. Isaac threaded the ball through the opposition to earn POD along with Felix who miraculously returned to play a solid game in wing and centre positions. Special mention to Oscar and Will for executing some precision shots into goal for the draw.

U12 Stars

A tough game against the BCFC Blades at Churchill Park on Saturday.  The game started out with a fast pace where it seemed like The Stars would get the ball in the net any moment. Unfortunately, the scales tipped in the Blades' favour with some great passing and soccer skills on show.   The Stars kept their chins up and managed to strike back and get two goals thanks to Oscar and then Alex Mitchell, who was awarded Player of the Day. She will enjoy a hot chocolate and brownie from Two Cracks Cafe in Cowaramup.

U13 Stingrays

On a cold Tuesday night it was an all Margaret River affair in a top of the league clash between Stingrays and Wyverns. The game proved to be an exciting and tight affair but goals in the first half from forwards Fraser Massie and Louis Bebbington provided the Stingrays with the half-time advantage. With all the passion of a local derby both teams ran and tackled hard with some outstanding goalkeeping on both sides. Stingrays netted a third a with a strong run and finish from midfielder Bobby Atkins, but a quick response by the Wyverns, and the constant threat from a quality forward line, ensured a tense finish. After watching this game there is little doubt there will be many exciting encounters between these two teams over the years to come.

YL Blaze

Our team made a quick dash to Busselton after our Pitch was too wet to play.  We had wind. We had rain. But at least the pitch was dry!!

Blaze made an explosive start with a drive by Kai, but was saved.  Seasiders then went up in our forward half and their kick was on target just going over Henry’s fingertips to open the scoring.  There was some great passing on display from both teams, with the ball going back and forth as everyone tried for the next goal.  A Seasiders free kick was blocked by our wall. We got the rebound but resulted in a corner. Unfortunately for us, they were able to get the goal.

A beautiful run up the pitch gave Kai and Kade a chance, but ball went over.   Asha was making plays in the mid, Sonny as always was chasing down the ball wherever it went.  Cass was having a great game tackling hard and Tilly was covering ground along the line. Digby was not making things easy for his much bigger Seasiders player, trying for the toblerone tackle with great block right on the line. Unfortunately Seasiders got the rebound and scored again.  A nice play up from Asha gave Kade had another shot but was saved by the keeper.

Lisa was making moves on the side, passing to Cass, to Kai back, to Cas who took a shot, but was another the keeper saved.  We had some great efforts by the team passing up but not able to convert.  Seasiders also had some good drives and scored another to give them a commanding lead going in to half time.

A kick up from Henry to gave Poom a chance but was saved by keeper. As was our next run forward.  Cas and Kade also trying for a toblerone tackle, not making it easy for Seasiders to get passed.  Henry made some great saves, and Cas, Will and Charlie were working hard in defence, piling on the pressure and making Seasider attackers run out of room.  An awkward bounce ended in an unfortunate handball in the box which gave Seasiders a penalty, to give them another goal.  In our forward half, we got a free kick. Kade was on target. but saved by keeper.  There was more back and forth with the whole Blaze team not giving up or giving in, which resulted in a goal from Poom right on the buzzer.

We may not have got the score we wanted, but we played with intensity and didn’t give up against a bigger and mostly older team. POD today went to Digby.  Digs is someone who always gives 100% and bought good physicality on the “big bloke”.   Well done Blaze. You always play as a team and never give up or give in.
