Round 10
What a week! Round 10 is light on Match Reports with multiple games either cancelled or moved due to pitch flooding at Capel, Barnard Park and here at home on the Upper Western Oval! Mother Nature is not being kind to us. Lovely sunny days to dry the pitches off during the week, then a battering on Friday night/early hours of Sat morning. Fingers crossed for a dry week - and weekend for Round 11 next week!
U6 Lightning
Our under 6s braved the elements this weekend in a muddy, rain-soaked clash between FMR Lightning and the Dunsborough Tigers. Despite the wet and wild conditions, both teams gave it their all in a spirited and fun-filled game. Dunsborough came out strong in attack, but Lightning held firm in defence, showing grit and teamwork. Special mention goes to Players of the Day, Ziggy and Harvey, who stayed hot on the ball and gave a determined performance throughout. A great game to play and watch—mud-splattered smiles all round, with thoughts of warm baths and cosy fires waiting at home!
U7 Falcons
Mud, Mud, Mud!!! What a day for winter sport. After moving some pitches around the U7 Falcons were excited to take the field. The weeks of winter meant the kids had plenty of energy to slide and jump in puddles....and play soccer. Vasse Kingsnakes turned up to play and gave the Falcons plenty of defensive practice. As always the Falcons worked as a team and never gave in. Congrats to Zephyr and Estelle for players of the mud today
U7 Ninja’s
The weather today was next level but Rapids games went ahead and the Ninjas loved it!! With only 8 players we had a perfect amount for two teams and no subs. Vasse were ready to get down and dirty - literally! The field was a mud pit. Captain Brady led his team Luke, Vinnie and Aston into the field. Vasse had heard the Ninjas were fierce so came out fighting and didn’t let their guard down and through sheer determination they managed to fend the Ninjas off until the 17 minute mark when the first And only goal came from Vinny!! On the other side Captain Stone marched into the mud with Mack, Clayton and Oli. Vasse Rattlesnakes were keeping the standards high on this pitch too, but through the mud Oli and Mack secured a few goals before half time!! Second half was another battle!! Ninjas never gave up and triumphed on the day. A great goal by Aston and Brady. Shout out to Luke for his hat-trick in the second half. Ninjas on the other pitch were put to the test but done swift plays from Stone, Oli Mack and Clayton saw the Ninjas up on goals by the final whistle. A great game with no player of the day as the entire team deserved that accolade!
U8 Messi Kids
In a rare dry patch during a rainy day, the team took to the field on a slow, rain-affected pitch. Despite the conditions, they delivered a performance full of energy, skill, and determination. Sonny opened the scoring, giving the team an early advantage. Vasse responded with a goal of their own, and the sides went into half time locked at 1-1. The second half saw brilliant passing and great ball control, reflecting a huge improvement from the start of the season. Jack then stepped up with an exceptional free kick, making it 2-1. However, Vasse found an equaliser late in the game, ending the match at 2-2. Everyone on the team played brilliantly and showed outstanding teamwork throughout in a closely fought game. The Player of the Day was Malakai Green, whose effort and attitude stood out.

U10 Strikers
The U10 Strikers battled hard in some of the wettest conditions we've seen all year. Rain fell throughout the match with heavy downpours making it tough for everyone. Jake started brilliantly in goal with some great early saves. Mateo and Archer were solid in defence, while Chase kept attacking and managed to score a good goal. Osiris and Miles worked the wings well, and Josh created chances up front. Lorenzo had a strong first half in defence. Arlo came on late in the first half and made an immediate impact, bringing fresh energy to the attack. In the second half, Archer scored another good goal and continued to help out in defence when needed Sam was outstanding all game - cool and calm at the back, earning him Player of the Day. Lorenzo worked hard in goal, making some important saves but was unlucky not to stop an amazing header from the opposition. Jake moved to midfield and controlled things well. The team finished with a nice move - Osiris with a quick throw, Arlo crossing perfectly, and Chase finishing well. Despite the loss, the team showed great spirit in difficult conditions. Every player gave their best effort. Player of the Day: Sam Well done, Strikers!

U10 Dragons
The Dragons travelled to Dunsborough this week to play in challenging, wet and muddy conditions! The rain was relentless but the Dragons brought focus, determination and spirit to their game. The Dragons worked hard to adapt to the muddy conditions, with the ball often stopped in its tracks by a slushy puddle! Nevertheless, the team were able to maintain confident control and make a lot of smart passes. Our defence worked hard to keep the Lightning at bay and our overall tactical game was a great improvement on last week, playing with great awareness of space. This, paired with quick runs down the line and accurately delivered crosses from the wing awarded the Dragons plenty of shots on goal. We’re grateful that we were still able to play despite the wild weather and both teams should be commended for showing up and giving it their all in tough conditions. Our soaked through players of the day today were Max and Jonah who both gave maximum effort! Thanks to both Two Cracks and Sons of Naples for the generous vouchers.
U10 Serpents
The Serpents showed outstanding resilience on the muddy Dunsborough pitch, maintaining solid defensive structure even when under intense pressure. Their excellent passing combinations unlocked scoring opportunities throughout the match. The Serpents worked cohesively, using smart ball movement and tactical awareness to overcome the challenging conditions. Player of the Day awards went to goalkeeper Raya for her fearless defensive work between the posts, and to Noah, whose exceptional ability to read the play resulted in an impressive four goals.

YL Blaze
Blaze had a bit of fun tonight in our game v Dev Squad, mixing up some positions. Henry had a run on the pitch playing Centre Back while Kade put the keeper kit on. William moved to the mid, and Poom up front. Kai moved to the back after a couple of weeks as striker. It was a very even game. Both had runs and shots, but neither team able to convert. The first half was scoreless, with both teams displaying their skills and playing some really good football. It was enjoyable to watch the kids out there owning the pitch.
Quick change of kit at half time - Poom put the keeper kit on while Kade put the yellow jersey back on. Kai moved back to striker which was a brilliant move as Lisa did a strong cross that he finished off for the first goal early in the second half. Was a fantastic display of passing and a great passage of play. A nice run from Kai to Digby back to Kai didn’t pay off, but Lisa and Kai followed it up, to Kade to William and back to Kade gave us our second. WHOOP WHOOP!!
Dev Squad had some chances in both halves, but both Kade and Poom acquitted themselves well as Keeper saving them all until one got past Poom in the closing minutes of the game to leave the score 2-1 in our favour. Coach Matt said after it was a fantastic game of football, and I agree completely! I think all the parents on both sides enjoyed the game. Matt said we are raising the bar every week, and our movement and finishing up front was sublime. Everyone is building and growing as season goes on. POD - went to Asha who played 4 positions, and while she didn’t feel she had an impact on the game, she certainly did! Lisa also got POD for the best half of Football she’s played this season and for developing a strong partnership up front.
The excitement mounted as not one, but TWO Toblerone’s came out of the bag! First went to Sonny, who was unbelievable on the pitch tonight. Great tackles and intensity as always. The Second went equally to Kai and Kade for their great goals. Great passing and while it was Kai’s goal, it was a team effort. Outstanding. Kade’s goal was an absolute cracker. Also a team effort, but fantastic finishing by both boys. Well done Blaze!
