Round 1
Round 1 and we are back at it, with lots of smiling faces in the yellow and green this weekend!!
Our U6 teams travelled to Capel for Gala day, where they were welcomed to the competition and played some round robin games. Thank you to our friends at Capel for organising everything for our minniest Mini-Roos! We also had multiple games at home, with a couple of hotly anticipated Derby’s taking place, while other teams travelled far and wide to take on our competitors.
U7 River Dogs
It was an impressive game of soccer to start the season, with the newly-formed River Dogs displaying great teamwork from start to finish. The team did an excellent job passing the ball around and creating space, which led to some really exciting plays and many fantastic goals. Everyone worked hard, running consistently both in attack and defence, never giving up on the ball. What stood out most was the outstanding sportsmanship on display, with players encouraging each other, celebrating team efforts, and showing respect to their opponents throughout the match. It was a wonderful example of teamwork, determination and positive attitude. Player of the day went to Isaac this week, for his hard work, strong tackles and perseverance on the ball. Player of the Day sponsored by LJ Soccer.
U7 Shadows
The U7 Shadows turned up for their first game, full of excitement and energy. The cold wind and rain didn’t stop the team from bringing their best attitude, and they demonstrated great sportsmanship welcoming the CSC Turbos to Margaret River. The game was full of high intensity when the opposition kicked an early goal, but the Shadows didn’t give up and used their impressive passing and dribbling skills to gain some goals back. All players on the team demonstrated their speed and agility, but most importantly, really great teamwork and support of each other. Special mention to Teddy who was awarded Player of the Match, for his determination and amazing attacking skills. The Shadows are sure to be in for a fun season ahead.
U8 Falcons
With a few nerves and great excitement season 2026 is underway! The Falcons welcomed Lenny to their team for his first game today and what a start with him and Estelle volunteering for goalkeeper role, great job by them both. Winston followed on from his 2025 season with some brilliant dribbling and goal scoring. Player of the day Marco showed some great defensive skills and teamwork pushing forward. Great first game for all the Falcons, it's great to be back having fun.
U8 Ninja’s
The Ninjas had an outstanding match to start the new season, playing their first ever game on the larger pitch with the bigger goals. The Ninjas rose to the challenge and came together beautifully, supporting each other and working well as a team. Their strong kicking and hard running made a big impact, and it was fantastic to see them passing into space to move around defenders. We managed to score an impressive number of goals, thanks to our fancy footwork and accurate passes. Brady and Clayton were exceptional in goals, working hard to ensure they didn't concede a single goal for the match. It was a brilliant all-round performance full of effort, improvement and team spirit. Player of the day went to Felipe, who played his very first game for the Ninjas and fit seamlessly into the team, contributing with great teamwork and epic ball skills. Sponsored by LJ Soccer.
U8 Breakers
A fantastic first round for the MR Breakers as they took on the GMAS Giants in their very first game together. There were plenty of smiles (and a few nerves) early on, but the team quickly began to settle, growing in confidence as the game progressed. It was great to see everyone rotating through different positions, giving things a go and supporting one another across the field. By the second half, the teamwork really started to shine, with players working together more with every play. A positive start and a great foundation to build on for the season ahead. Player of the day - Beau Brooks
U9 Magic
FMR Magic kicked off their U9 season with a thrilling home game against the McKillop United Rockets at Rapids Landing on Saturday. The South-west autumn chill couldn't dampen Magic’s bright start, with a clear “GO!” mindset setting the tone for an energetic opening contest.
The game flowed with confidence and determination, with everyone giving it a go and creating plenty of scoring opportunities through clever passing and strong teamwork. That effort was rewarded with some excellent finishes, including a standout team goal built from a chain of slick passes. The Rockets kept coming, but Mitchell was fantastic in goals, making some really brave saves under pressure.
Mason earned Player of the Day for his huge all-round impact, always involved and never giving up on the ball, with thanks to LJ Soccer for the Player of the Day voucher. Well done Magic - a cracking start to what’s shaping up to be an exciting season ahead.
U9 Messi Kids
What an absolute nail-biter! Team FMR Messi edged out GMAS in a high-scoring thriller for the first match of the season
Ezra was on fire with the opening goal for FMR. Hat-trick Hero: Quinn dominated the scoreboard with three goals, including a clinical second-half finish off a Clancy pass. Luke and Hunter were unstoppable on the wing and found the net, while Jack scored a stunner from the midway line. Eliana and Sunny anchored a great defence throughout, while Malakai made crucial saves to keep GMAS at bay. Despite a 3-goal surge from GMAS in the second half FMR held strong, with Luke and Quinn putting them in the back of the net. Malakai earned Player of the Match and a Candy Cow voucher for his heroics in goal and on the pitch.
U9 Raptors
What a fantastic first game together for our new Under 9’s team—the River Raptors! The kids showed incredible team spirit, big heart, and outstanding sportsmanship from start to finish. A huge shoutout to Coach Dan for guiding the team so well, and to Matty for doing a great job as referee.
There were so many great individual efforts across the field. Lochie impressed with his footwork, while Leo was everywhere—attacking the ball and delivering great passes to his teammates. Eddie also showed strong teamwork with some excellent passing. Isaac was outstanding in goals, making multiple saves and staying focused throughout.
Bo showed great awareness, always tracking the ball and looking for passing options, while Ezra brought strong attacking energy, chasing everything and not afraid to get involved. In defence, Oliver did his best to clear the ball from the goal square, with Coalán right there alongside him helping protect the goal.
Aston brought plenty of energy, with strong kicks from the sideline and solid defensive efforts, always looking to involve teammates. William stepped up as goalie in the second half with a great effort, staying alert and focused.
Overall, an awesome first game—plenty to be proud of. Well done team! ⚽👏
U10 Legends 11
Legends 11 made a powerful return to the field. The integration of our two newest teammates, Emma and Teddy was seamless. Both players slotted in beautifully and contributed immediately to the team’s flow. Sunny, Teddy, George, Delasi and Harper were formidable in defence. They worked together with great communication and determination, denying the opposition any clear chances. Jangchub backed them up with impressive goal keeping, making a spectacular dive across goal to keep the opposition’s score at 0.
Makai, Hutch, Nelson and Emma were in midfield. Their relentless running and high work rate kept momentum firmly in our favour. Each player covered every blade of grass, won vital second balls, and consistently created space. This tireless game play opened up numerous opportunities for Koby and Knox, our sharp-shooting strikers to bank goal after goal. Well done team! Player of the day was shared between Knox and Sunny. Thanks to our sponsor Candy Cow.
U10 Raptors
Raptors are off to a flying start this season, happy to be back playing and adjusting well to the bigger pitch size. Welcome to two new members of the team, Yuna and Ruby, who both had a great game. All players had stellar moments and special mention to an excellent cross from Carlo met by Nissi in perfect position in front of the goal to kick it into the back of the net. Louis had a fantastic mach staying strong in his position the whole time and was awarded player of the Day with a voucher from Candy Cow.
U11 Dragons
The Dragons kicked off the 2026 season on home turf, meeting the other FMR U11 team in our division. These are always fun matches as the Dragons get to test their skills against friends from LJ Soccer or school.
The conditions were dry and even the sun made an appearance! From the first whistle, the tempo was fast. The Dragons showcased excellent, accurate passing and strategic game play that improved as the game progressed. Watching the Dragons it was clear that there wasn’t an off season, the players have kept their skills sharp and were rewarded for this with a bounty of goals. The U11s were persistent in their attack, and were able to push through the Dragons’ defence at times to create plenty of shots on goal of their own, putting our keepers in both halves through their paces.
Our players of the day were Jack and Finley, who both valiantly played a half in goals. Thank you to our sponsors Golf Gardens and Margaret River Bookshop for the generous vouchers!
U11 Serpents
What a start to the season. The Serpents came out firing — loads of energy, brilliant teamwork, and a great mix of new recruits and returning faces. With all three coaches on the sideline, the squad was in good hands from the first whistle. Noah scored a goal and was awarded Player of the Day and scored himself a free Domino's pizza. This team is just getting started — exciting times ahead for the Serpents this season!
U12 Storm
With a terrific start to the season, U12 Storm gave it their all from the opening whistle to the final minute. The enthusiasm across the field was clear to see, with every player contributing to a strong and spirited performance.
Their impressive technical skills and teamwork shone through, outplaying GMAS Dynamics. It was such a standout effort that we had three Players of the Day!
A big thank you to Candy Cow for sponsoring Lachlan Wills, Sylvie Brouwers (our Golden Boot winner), and Gal Berlot.
U13 Breakers
The Breakers played the All Stars in a Derby to begin the season. A tight contest saw the score tied at two each at half time. In their first season with the Breakers, Ben played an incredible game to score a goal and take out POD along with Mireya who was formidable in defence. The Breakers found their feet in the second half to take out the Derby 5 - 2. Thanks to Candy Cow for prizes.
U14 Stingrays
Stingrays started the season against the Seasiders with a hard-fought see-sawing battle. Thanks to a well taken brace from Taj McCrickard, Stingrays looked quite comfortable until a gutsy response from the Seasiders brought it back to even for half time. Robust defending from player of the day Cayden Del Barrio, sponsored by Golf gardens, enabled the Stingrays to weather the storm until a second half hat-trick from Bobby Atkins and another from Louis Bebbington sealed the victory. A great effort all round from both teams.
U15 Rockets
The Rockets arrived at today's match with one thing on their minds, and it wasn't warming up quickly.
After a slow start, possession was even which made the match even better to watch. The Hornets weren't shy about showing their game either, and after losing the ball they opened the score.
The Rockets made their intentions clear with a powerful kick from Miles that had everyone holding their breath, until the post had the final say. But the Rockets regrouped and found their moment: Monty stepped up and dispatched a penalty with the kind of cool that suggests he's done this before. A cracker, by all accounts.
From there, the energy was palpable. The team played with heart, held their nerve under pressure, fighting for possession without losing their energy, and showed exactly what this season has in store. Amazing performances all around. The Rockets are coming. Consider yourselves warned. Player of the Day: Dom Brawls, thank you Two Cracks Coffee. One note for future reference: Goals are celebrated. Shirts, however, stay on.
U15 Hornets
A healthy start to the season with a Margaret River Derby. Hornets v Rockets saw some excellent skills, strong defence and clever ball skills holding the ball well away from the goals on the most part, and resulting in a 1all draw.
Margaret River one day Melbourne the next had a glorious autumn day turn to blustery showers every 15minutes making for some fun both on and off the pitch.
Good spirits and healthy competitive spirit between the two teams made for an excellent game to watch, not at all boring and always showing the best of what Margaret river U15's has to offer. POD went to Sophia Le Blanc
U17 Mustangs
The U17 Mustangs travelled to Bunbury for the first time, with the Coastal and Leeuwin leagues coming together for this years comp. Our opponents were the Dynamo’s. Stirling took an early shot showing them we meant business, but couldn’t find the net. The first half was a bit like tennis with the ball going up and back and up and back with neither team finding the net, until the Dynamo’s drew first blood.
The second half opened with a cracker of a goal from Kelani in the first minute to give us the equaliser. Jarrah kept us in the game with some world class saves, Charlie was an absolute machine, and Poom solid in Fullback. Everyone worked their socks off and didn’t back down, but unfortunately the score didn’t go our way with Dynamo’s taking out the win 4-1. Player of the Day went to Kai who was magic to watch on the pitch and had a great impact on the game.
