Round 6
Round 6 was a MASSIVE week at home, with 13 games on at Gloucester Park and another 9 at Rapids! Was great to see so many games on and the atmosphere at the grounds was exciting a game after game was played on all 4 pitches. The rain held off, but the wind was decidedly chilly, with the temp 8 degrees as the first games started at 9am. Read on for a blow by blow of the games reported!
U7 Lightning
It was a beautiful sunny morning for the Lightning’s game vs Busselton and even though multiple players got soccer balls to their belly’s, we bravely played on showing the passing and shooting skills learnt at training. Our player of the day went to Samuel Gobregts for his amazing sportsmanship and perseverance, well done Samuel!
U7 River Dogs
The River Dogs had another incredible match this week, showing just how much they've improved as a team. They demonstrated amazing accuracy with their passing around the pitch, with a fantastic display of team work to kick a remarkable number of goals. The River Dogs were strong in defence, with some amazing tackles to keep the opposition from scoring for most of the game. Player of the day this week went to Louie Barr, for showing bravery on the pitch and putting maximum effort into his game. Well done River Dogs on great sportsmanship and another epic team game. This week's Player of the Day voucher was sponsored by Two Cracks Coffee.
U7 Shadows
It was a high-intensity game for the MR Shadows. The Busselton Wildcats started strong with a couple of early goals, and a further unlucky own goal put the Shadows under quite a bit of pressure in the first quarter. It was a united team effort that sparked an epic comeback, beginning with a first goal from Harry, which he scored from near the midline. From then on, Margaret River kept the Wildcats in their half, and shortly afterwards, Jimmy scored another goal. The high pressure persisted, leading to two goals by Teddy, which put the Shadows ahead by half time.
The harsh tackles from the opposition didn’t faze the Shadows, who continued their strong attacking play, capped off by a hat-trick from Kai. Harry finished the game with another goal, leaving the Shadows with the lead over the Busselton Wildcats. Jimmy received the well-deserved Coach’s Player Award — congratulations, Jimmy!
U8 Falcons
It's an exciting weekend to be on the soccer pitch with Australia's opening game of the world cup just a day away. Our young Falcons will be watching and learning from these superstars. Today we took on GMAS Giants at home in an exciting match, well done to Lenny who his playing his first year at FMR for player of the day. Aussie Aussie Aussie!!
U8 Ninja’s
It was a hard fought first half as these two FMR teams came head to head for a thrilling match. Mack Brand was incredible as goalie, refusing to let a pulled hamstring stop him from saving every shot at goal. The passing on the pitch was incredible, with amazing accuracy and great team work. When the other team lost their goalie to injury, Mack offered to cover for them and have a go at stopping the onslaught of goals from his team mates. Then brave Stone Marek stepped up to be Ninja's goalie while Mack was on the other team, managing to protect his zone, only conceding one goal! Amazing work for your first time in goals, Stone! Players of the day today were Brady McCagh and Felipe Hume, for their consistent efforts, always taking on the coach's advice and showing us how strong they can boot the ball! Great effort Ninjas, another incredible game on our home pitch. Thanks to Dominos and FMR Canteen for sponsoring the Player of the Day vouchers this week!
U9 Magic
Magic put on an impressive display in Saturday’s home match against Dunsborough Warriors, with plenty of great football played across the pitch. A standout feature of the game was Magic’s brilliant use of space and exceptional passing, with the team linking up well to create opportunities and score some fantastic goals. The players worked hard for each other and showed great teamwork in both attack and defence.
Mitch took the gloves in the first half, with Oleg stepping into goals after the break. Both players did a great job between the posts, helping keep Magic organised at the back. Magic were strong defensively while continuing to press forward and create chances, making for a fun and entertaining match played in great spirit by both teams.
Player of the Day went to Mitch for an outstanding all-round performance. Along with making some excellent saves in goals, Mitch was a constant threat out wide with his lightning-fast runs down the wing. Thanks to the FMR Canteen for sponsoring this week’s Player of the Day voucher. Well done, Magic, and thanks to Dunsborough Warriors for a great match
U9 Raptors
The Raptors played a high-energy, back-and-forth game against Dunsborough Comets today at home. Lochie started in goal for the first half and made an early save in the opening minute, continuing with several key stops under heavy pressure. The Raptors defence, led by Beau, Ollie, Leo (captain), and Aston, was strong throughout, with important clearances. Aston was great in defence with 3 amazing headers during repeated corner situations.
In attack, the Raptors linked play well and created chances through Isaac, Ezra, Beau, and Eddie. Ezra finished a chance to open the scoring, followed by Eddie’s amazing counter attack running the whole pitch that led to an own goal, and then a well-worked team goal finished by Beau. Dunsborough responded just before halftime with a goal of their own.
In the second half, Will took over in goal and made several important saves in a row as Dunsborough mounted a strong comeback. The opposition fought back to level and eventually took the lead.
Despite this, the Raptors showed huge fighting spirit, refusing to drop their heads with Isaac making some great passes that led to some great counter attacks by the team.
Lochie had a free kick attempt, which was well struck but denied, adding to the Raptors’ constant attacking pressure. They chased the clock right to the end, pushing forward with determination, corners, and attacking runs in an effort to find an equaliser.
In the end, Dunsborough held on to win in a tightly contested and exciting match, with the Raptors’ resilience and effort right until the final whistle standing out as a major positive from the game.
U10 Mavericks
Flynn's Hat-Trick set the tone with the Maverick’s coming out strong against the MacKillop team, applying early pressure. After a near-miss by River, Flynn opened the scoring and five minutes later, Eddie found the back of the net, doubling the lead.
Charlie was phenomenal in goal early on, making sharp saves to keep MacKillop scoreless during the initial onslaught. On the field, George was a creative force on the right wing, providing excellent assists and driving the attack forward. This playmaking allowed Flynn to net his second goal and ultimately secure a first-half hat-trick. Right before the halftime whistle, Lou and Ziggy worked well across the back half but MacKillop United managed to break through, sneaking in a goal before the break.
The Mavericks didn't take their foot off the gas in the second half. Chase, Sammy, and Charlie kept the MacKillop defence busy with constant shots on target. Both Eddie and Flynn added to their tallies, keeping the scoreboard ticking.
A major highlight of the half came from Sammy, who capitalised on a wayward goal kick and sent the ball sailing straight back over the keeper's head. Charlie then extended the lead with a spectacular long-range shot.
Late in the game, Ziggy made a brilliant save to deny the visitors any chance of a late consolation goal. In the final minute, River found redemption from his early miss by scoring the final goal of the match. Player of the Day went to Chase, for a relentless and impactful performance up front throughout the game. A special mention to Referee Glenn, who did a great job managing the game today.
U11 Dragons
The Dragons took on the FMR Hornets 11 this weekend in an entertaining match. It was our second time meeting the Hornets this season and it was clear our opponents had come prepared for the rematch. The contest provided a great challenge for Dragons, who responded with plenty of determination and teamwork.
We had some great movement and well thought out passes. While our finishing wasn’t quite as sharp as it has been in recent weeks, it made for an exciting match as the Hornets kept us on our toes. The Dragons continued to work hard and create opportunities. Defensively, the team was excellent, staying organised, communicating well, and showing great composure to keep a clean sheet. It was a strong effort all round and another valuable step forward in the team’s development.
Our player of the day with thanks to Domino’s Margaret River, was Jayden. Jay is the newest Dragon to join the fold and has played a valuable part in our team from the get go. He had an outstanding game today, netting a cracker goal in the first half!
U11 Serpents
Epic game in Busselton today with the U11 Margaret River Serpents taking on the CSC Grasshoppers. The Serpents showed awesome teamwork throughout the match, backing each other and moving the ball beautifully. Charlie had a standout performance — sharp passes, strong defence, and relentless chasing — earning him Player of the Day and a sweet treat from sponsor Candy Cow in Cowaramup. Big thanks to Coach Jason for guiding the team.
U12 Roos
The Roos started strongly, with solid defence across the field and some great work in goals from Hudson, who stepped up to help the team while Didi stepped out from injury. We’re pleased to report that Didi is feeling much better.
The Falcons found their rhythm in the second half, but the Roos worked hard together, supporting each other and making some excellent clearances under pressure. The teamwork and determination on display were a credit to the whole team
A special congratulations to POM Zoe Elkins-Green, for her outstanding defensive effort and strong clearances throughout the game. Well deserved, Zoe — enjoy your voucher from our fabulous FMR canteen! Keep up the great work and team spirit. Go Roos!
U13 All Stars
Great game as the All Stars too on Capel at home. It was a close competition, with Zoe making most of the opportunities, with an excellent corner kick goal, Flynn making exceptional passes and fierce tackles from Flow.
Strong defence from Reef and Hugo sadly injured meant no subs so a strong effort from the team. Wonderful effort from Zoe and Chloe usually in backline and strong up front today - great goal from Chloe near the end of the match.
Last minute handball from other team gave a penalty to Zoe, who just missed hitting top bar. Excellent pressure in last 10 minutes from All Stars, with expert coaching from Ulli offering support to Coach Ant and the players.
U14 Stingrays
The Stingrays played another solid game with a four-one victory over Vasse. A first half gold by Taj McCrickard followed by 2 goals more by the Atkins brothers, Oscar and Bobby, were looking pretty comfortable with just 10 minutes left of the game to play at 3-1. Freddy Dargue ensured the win with a beautifully taken free kick in the last few minutes. And congratulations to man of the match Finn Langlois for a wonderful game both on the pitch and in goal.
U15 Warriors
The team started the game lacking focus, which resulted in us going 4–0 down in the first half. Austin and Pedro were outstanding, showing great effort, intensity, and commitment throughout the match.
Towards the end of the first half, and especially during the second half, we created several clear scoring opportunities but managed to convert only one of them. I thought we played some good football, moving the ball well and creating chances, but we still need to find that competitive edge and determination if we want to make this season a successful one.
Player of the Match: Pedro. He showed an excellent understanding of his position and consistently made the right decisions on the field. His work rate, attitude, and overall contribution made him a key player for the team and a deserving Player of the Match
U17 Mustangs
Another close games as the Mustangs took on Bunbury United for the first time! It was another close contest for us, but the momentum seems to be more our way in the first half. Plenty of chances, but unable to find the net. United also had a lot of chances, but Jarrah was not having it and nothing got through at our end either. Then a cracking goal by Kelani before the whistle gave us the lead at the end of the first half.
The second half was much the same. Everyone played their role on the pitch giving it 110%. A run from Bobbie resulted in a pass to Kelani who once again found the net for his second goal. United had a late resurgence with one of their shots going through to leave the score 2-1 with about 5 minutes to go. The parents on the sidelines held their breath as the clock ticked down. A couple of corners for United went our way with the defenders keeping the ball out. The whilst blew giving us our first win for the season. Was great to hear the song from the change-rooms! Well done Mustangs! Your tenacity and drive paid off.
