Round 4
Round 4 dawned on a chilly day in Margs. That didn’t stop the teams from getting out on the pitch and battling it out.
U7 Thunder
Home game for Thunder this weekend. Everyone played strong across the field with lots of play at our end. Defence was strong with lots of communication between the players. Olivia was Player of the Match, winning a Domino’s voucher. Well done!
U8 Falcons
It was an early start for our young Falcons with a trip to Capel for the morning. With the fourth game of the season the Falcons all combined perfectly today. They stayed in their positions and worked together really well. Winston earnt player of the day today with his great team work and attacking play.
U8 The Breakers
The game took place on the Vasse Playing Fields on Pitch 3. It was a beautiful day and the game was really fun to watch as the teams were both strong.
The first half was played in great spirits by both teams with the Breakers attacking being well defended by a strong Taipans defence. The Breakers attacked strongly with many attempts on goal defended well before Lucas managed to break the stalemate with a goal assisted by Liam.
The second half continued with Breakers attacking strongly and the Taipans strong in defence. Even though the Breakers spent most time in their half it was hard to break through. Bo had a few great runs down the wing early on culminating in a shot ricocheting off the post.
Fionn finally broke the stalemate with a great goal, his first for the season. Taipans broke back with a great rebound goal.
Breakers were solid in defence with contributions from all team members keeping the Taipans in check.
Lucas hit a hard shot off the corner post and Dylan capitalised with a great goal from the deflection. Dylan then doubled up with a great second goal.
It was a great game enjoyed by both teams. GO Breakers!!!
The two players of the day (Fionn for his first goal and Liam for his consistency) were very happy about their vouchers from Burger Baby. Congratulations!
U9 Magic
FMR Magic faced FMR Raptors in an entertaining local derby at Rapids Landing, with both teams producing a fast-paced contest full of attacking football and strong defensive moments.
Credit to the Raptors, who moved the ball well and kept the pressure on throughout, creating an exciting end-to-end match. Captain Mitchell led with great energy before stepping into goals in the second half, making a smooth transition between the posts and producing some great saves. Mason found the back of the net in the second half as Magic continued to press forward, creating a number of promising attacking moves and going close on several occasions in a strong team performance.
Magic’s training focus for the week was “Hotspot” and the players applied it well, reading danger early and clearing the ball from key areas. Player of the Day went to Savannah for taking the week’s training focus straight into the match, working hard in defence to clear the ball away from the opposition goal square and showing strong positioning throughout the game. Thanks to Two Cracks Coffee for sponsoring the Player of the Day voucher.
U9 Messi Kids
Margaret River Messi Kids had another great game this weekend. Awesome work in both attack and defence but the passing game was absolutely on point, resulting in some excellent goals allowing the Messi Kids to claim another Win.
U9 Raptors
Once again the Margaret River Raptors put in a fantastic team performance, showing strong teamwork, excellent passing combinations, determined defending all with relentless effort throughout the match. The team created many chances on goal and supported each other well across the entire field. It was a terrific all-round performance.
Bo led the team brilliantly as captain with excellent tackling, organisation, and defensive clearing and showed strong leadership all game and was well deserved player of the game. Aston was strong in defence and showed great passing skills and worked hard in the midfield. Caolán defended well by tracking opposition players closely and making important clearances. He also delivered a great pass to create a scoring opportunity.
Eddie worked hard in attack alongside teammates up front and also tracked back well to help in defence, he was all over the field. He made an excellent header clearance to stop danger near goal and scored well for the team.
Ezra was lively in attack, showing great footwork and confidence on the ball, all which reflects his scoring tally. Leo combined well with teammates in attack and showed excellent passing throughout the match. He cleared two corners defensively and landed with a strong strike from the centre. Lochie had an outstanding game with strong footwork and determination carrying the ball up the field. He delivered a great corner kick, and had several attempts on goal.
Oliver was excellent in defence, especially during corners where he made strong blocks and cleared the ball strongly down the field. Will performed well in goal with excellent kick-outs and clearances. He also defended corners and made an important save while playing in defence. Go Raptors!
U10 Legends 11
This week the legends play against the Capel Pups in Capel. The coaches decided to change up the positions this week, resulting in George, Jangchub and Sonny scoring their first goals for this season. Great win for the team and congratulations to George Walsh for receiving player of the day.
U10 Mavericks
When the sun finally came out on Saturday, it shone brightly on the FMR Mavericks match against the Vasse Mulgas. The players of the day for Mavs with an impressive 5 goals between them were Flynn Hardy and Eddie McGrath, pictured here with coach Jared Hardy.
U11 Dragons
The Dragons tackled their first away game of the season against the BCFC Possums with confidence and composure, demonstrating how the team is growing each week. Everyone worked hard on their positioning and placement across the pitch, adjusting when needed and creating space. We moved the ball around brilliantly, linking up with clever passes and supporting our teammates all over the pitch.
The Dragons continue to develop their strategy and game awareness, with everyone contributing valuably throughout the match. They continue to show more growth, confidence, and understanding of the game, and their effort and sportsmanship on our first match away from home was something to be proud of.
Our player of the day today was Leighton, he is a speedy powerhouse on the pitch that couldn’t be stopped by the Possums today. Thanks to our valued sponsor Candy Cow for the voucher!
U11 Serpents
Great home game this week. The Serpents held on in a nail‑biter with Harry, Jayden and Charlie working brilliantly together across the back line. Noah put in a standout performance and deservedly took home POD.
U13 All Stars
The All Stars took to the field for their fourth game together as a team this week, in an FMR Derby against the Legends, continuing to build strong teamwork and confidence with every match.
In the first half, the All Stars held their shape well and showed great composure moving the ball out from the back. Goalkeeper Reef played an important role in starting attacks with short passing from the goal box, allowing the team to work the ball up the wings and create several promising shots on goal. The opposition’s first goal came later in the half, but the All Stars’ defence worked tirelessly, with Reef also making some excellent saves to keep the team in the contest.
The second half saw the All Stars spend much of the game on the defensive, with every player working hard and showing determination against a strong Legends side. Although the All Stars were unable to secure the win, the team continues to show great promise as the players learn each other’s strengths and develop together as a squad.
Players of the Day went to Luke and Kai. Luke impressed up front with his relentless running all game, creating opportunities and taking several shots on goal. Kai was once again strong in defence and through the middle, shutting down opposition attacks and helping drive the ball forward for the team.
U13 Breakers
The Breakers played the Blades in a tough match at Gloucester Park. Despite both teams playing strong games the Blades won the match 7-0. Zoe put on a defensive masterclass leaving the opposition guessing what she was going to do next to win POD. Drayke managed some crucial saves that prevented a stronger defeat to also win POD. Thanks to Dominoes pizzas and Burger Baby for prizes.
U13 Legends
Early game this Saturday for the Legends against fellow Margaret River side, the All Stars. The Legends played smart, composed football from start to finish. Every player was where they needed to be, supporting each other and giving 100% all game long. It was a fantastic team performance and a great match to watch.
A special mention to Kayla, who deserved Player of the Game for her relentless effort and constant battles in defence. She was outstanding all match. Huge effort from everyone involved — well done Legends! 👏⚽
U14 Stingrays
Stingrays performed well this week in a tough away game against GMAS Storm. Playing with no subs, and at times down to just 10 players, the Stingrays put in a gritty effort exemplified by player of the day Jasper Dutton. Down by 2 goals they came back to 2-1 thanks to a wonderful long-range lob by Freddy Dargue. The game ended 3-1 but Stingrays are very much looking forward to the rematch with a full squad.
U15 Warriors
It was a challenging match this week between the Warriors and Vasse. Taking the loss in their stride the team are looking towards what they can learn from the match. This weeks player of the match was Michael for best effort and attitude.
U17 Mustangs
Anytime FMR face Dunsborough, we know it will be a tough match. Today was no different. Dunsborough were first to break through with a goal 11 mins into the game. Mustangs were determined not to give them another, in a tight and hard fought contest. Jarrah literally threw himself at the ball, with some hard punch outs, and other saves involving flying through the air.
Kelani and Poom were working hard to make the most of our chances forward, but we were unable to convert. Luca made sure to close down players. Sid and Ethan as always worked tirelessly in the mid, and Bobbie and Ollie were machines running everything down, directing the play and moving the ball forward. Richard also had a big impact on the game with some intelligent play making.
The second half was much the same. A free kick by Ollie was on target, but saved by their keeper. Will was putting his body on the line to stop their shots and runs forward. Kai was working hard to make things go our way and the whole team pulled together to keep Dunsborough scoreless in the second. We were a crossbar away from a draw, but luck wasn’t on our side. Regardless of the score, our lads did well. It was a tough game and they should be proud of themselves.
